If you have lived in Mooresville for more than a summer or two, you already know the rhythm. Thursday nights point toward Pioneer Park. Early August points toward Old Settlers. The downtown blocks between Broad and Main pick up the slack in between. This year, that rhythm is off by a beat, and it is off for a reason worth knowing before you plan the next four weekends.
The short version: Mooresville's annual free summer concert series is back at Pioneer Park, however there will be no shows at Bicentennial Park this year due to a downtown Mooresville construction project on Main Street. And the fair everyone was already circling on the calendar has moved. If you were planning to attend this year's Old Settlers Fair anytime between July 30 and Aug. 2, you'll want to adjust your plans. This year's fair at Pioneer Park has been pushed back a week to Aug. 6-9.
Two shifts, one park absorbing both. That is the story of Mooresville's summer, and it changes what a normal Thursday looks like through August.
Pioneer Park Is Now Doing the Work of Two Venues
In a typical year, the concerts split between Pioneer Park's shell and the smaller Bicentennial Park stage downtown, giving residents a choice between the sprawling park experience and the walk-across-the-square version. With Main Street torn up, that choice is gone for the season. Every Thursday show is at Pioneer, and the fair that usually anchors the first weekend of August is now landing on the second.
For a resident, the practical consequence is simple. Pioneer Park at 1101 N. Indianapolis Rd. is where you should be pointing the car most Thursdays through late August, and again the weekend of Aug. 6. The park itself has plenty of room to absorb it. Pioneer Park is a 130-acre site, including the Mooresville Family Aquatic Center, picnic shelters, playgrounds, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, horseshoe courts, sand volleyball courts, and a paved walking/jogging trail.
Bring a chair. That part has not changed.
The Thursday Slate Through August
Here is what is booked at Pioneer Park through the end of summer. All shows start at 7 p.m.

The July 16 opener with Big Rosco & The Hammers at Pioneer Park has already come and gone, but the pattern of the season is set. Regional cover-heavy bands, food vendors on the perimeter, families spread across the lawn. If you have been meaning to introduce a new neighbor to the concert series, the Aug. 20 date is the natural last swing before school routines take over.
One note on Aug. 6. That Thursday now falls inside the rescheduled fair window, so the park will be operating at a different scale than a normal concert night. Plan for more traffic on Indianapolis Road and less parking than you are used to.
Old Settlers, Rescheduled to Aug. 6–9
This is the one to reset on the family calendar. The 154th Old Settlers Fair is now Thursday, Aug. 6 through Sunday, Aug. 9 at Pioneer Park. The Park Board confirmed the move at its July meeting, with park superintendent Phil Cornelius walking through the schedule change.
The bones of the event have not changed. The event takes place at Pioneer Park in Mooresville with a full carnival set up from Poor Jack's Amusements, plus local food and information booths and live music. Wristband nights, the Sunday afternoon parade, the Lions Club presence. If you attended last year, the layout will feel familiar. It is worth remembering how deep the Lions Club roots run here. The local Lions Club has been active in Mooresville for a century, and they've managed the Old Settler's Fair event since just after WWII.
A few things a first-time attendee often misses:
- The parade closes the weekend on Sunday, not opens it. Stage from the Mooresville High School parking lot side of things if you want to actually see it.
- The Special Olympics Pumper Pull is a Sunday event. It is the fundraiser to plan around if you want to do more than eat elephant ears.
- Music is on the festival stage every evening. Free, no ticket, no separate line.
For anyone whose kids age into the ride wristband years this summer, this is also the fair to start the tradition. Poor Jack's runs both kiddie rides and the taller stuff on the same midway, so a family with a five-year-old and a fourteen-year-old is not stuck splitting up.
The Downtown Half of the Calendar
With Main Street construction in play, downtown's summer programming has leaned harder into its indoor businesses and its sidewalk events. Two dates are worth blocking.
July 24, Christmas in July Sip & Shop. July 24 from 6-8pm along Broad & Main Streets. This is the evening version of the four-day sale event that runs 7/23 - 7/26. If you have gift-giving to do in the fall and prefer to buy local, the discounts during Christmas in July are usually the deepest of the year.
Saturday nights at Black Dog Brewing. Mooresville's local brewery, located on State Road 67 just south of town, Black Dog Brewing Company serves up live music just about every Saturday. Watch our calendar for who's playing each week, but you can expect to find live performances beginning at 7 pm on Saturdays year around. If the Thursday Pioneer Park nights are your family-and-lawn-chair option, Saturdays at Black Dog are the after-the-kids-are-in-bed option.
The reason the concert series is one venue instead of two this year is not a scheduling accident. It is the trade-off Mooresville is making right now: short-term inconvenience downtown in exchange for whatever Main Street looks like on the other side of the project. That is a very Mooresville trade to make.
Where to Eat First
If you are heading to Pioneer Park for a Thursday show and want to eat before you set up the chair, the downtown grid gives you real options that are not chain-adjacent. A few worth knowing by name and address, because the map app will not tell you which one fits which mood:

Zydeco's Cajun is worth adding to the rotation once you have hit the others. And if the downtown parking around Broad and Main is squeezed on a construction day, The Parlor's location on the west end of Main is often easier to slip into than the middle of the block.
What This Adds Up To
For a town Mooresville's size, having the summer schedule fold itself onto one park for a season is unusual. It also happens to be a useful preview of how much event weight Pioneer Park can carry. If you have been on the fence about whether the park is the right place for a family reunion, a milestone birthday, or a nonprofit fundraiser, watch how it handles the Aug. 6–9 window. That is the stress test.
The rest of the summer will hand itself back to Bicentennial Park and the downtown blocks in future years. The construction ends, the Thursday nights split back into two venues, and the fair returns to its usual first-of-August slot. This particular version of Mooresville's summer, with everything pointed at one address off Indianapolis Road, is a one-year edition.
